Different Types Of Makeup

Depending upon their composition and ingredients makeup maybe classified into different types, such as mineral makeup, natural makeup, organic makeup, non-organic traditional makeup and so on.

i. Mineral Makeup:Mineral makeup is prepared from very fine micro-ionized minerals and inorganic pigments present in nature. These do not contain any chemical preservatives like mineral oil, dyes or fragrances which are found in traditional cosmetics. While most of them do not contain the usual chemical and synthetic ingredients, each mineral makeup product is created diferently. Unlike most cosmetics, mineral make-up offers some amazing benefits. For one, it is absolutely natural and inert, and does not support microbial growth. Thus, along with the fact that it contains no oils, fragrances, fillers, chemicals or synthetic ingredients in its composition, makes it hypoallergenic, with minimal possibility of an allergic response. Its non-comodegenic or non pore-clogging properties mean that it does not even penetrate the skin. In a broader sense, mineral make up is good for sensitive skin, stays on all day, has no harmful ingredients and it is natural. It contains no moisture, bacteria do not grow and preservatives are not needed. It does not require a sunscreen, works great on everyone and works well on humidity.

ii. Natural Makeup:As the word "natural" suggests, is a substance in harmony with nature or derived from nature. Natural cosmetics are made from ingredients like fruits, vegetables, honey and herbs. They are less likely to harm your skin, hair or eyes. They provide natural ingredients that the skin needs. Oils are present in the natural foundations which keep the skin supple and provide a clean canvas for make-up. All companies who produce 'natural' makeup conform to certain world standards of purity. This makeup is biodegradable, does not contain synthetic chemicals and is never tested on animals. It is highly recommended for allergy sufferers as well as persons with MCS, multiple chemical sensitivities.

iii. Organic Makeup:Organic makeup is basically made with natural ingredients with minimum use of synthetics and preservatives. It mainly uses plant extracts as well as minerals. That is why you will find that most mineral makeup available in the market are also organic in nature. For a makeup to be be labeled as organic, it requires the USDA seal. This seal indicates that the ingredients used in the makeup is 95% organic or more. Just because a makeup is certified organic, it need not be safe for use. Plant or botanical extracts may contain certain powerful toxins such as carcinogens, hydrosols, paraben and Sodium laurel sulfate. An ideal organic makeup product may contain ingredients such as:
- Essential Oils: Aloe vera oil, Honeysuckle oil;
- Herbal extracts: Extracts of Myrtle, Algae, chestnuts
- Minerals such as mica.

iv. Waterproof Makeup:Waterproof make-up is for those who want their make-up to last long, be it a pool party, a wedding or a workout at the gym,. It stays clean, looks good always and feels fresh. Well applied waterproof make up lasts all day,and isn't affected by any external factors such as weather, perspiration, and of course, water. You can choose from a wide range of waterproof cosmetics, right from mascara to lipstick to rouge. Make-up on the whole, changes the appearance of a person and gives a glow and smoothness to the skin. A silicone based oil called Dimethicone copolyol, causes the make up to adhere to the skin properly, adding lustre and sheen. Waterproof make-up doesn't come off easily, doesn't smear and doesn't run too when it is exposed to any sort of wetness. It is moisture resistant. Most make up products like mascara, eyeliner, lipstick and blush contain dimethicone which help the make up to glide on smoothly to the skin. It often requires special cleansing agent for getting removed from your skin. Such cleansing agents mostly act harshly on your skin. They often tend to remove sebum from your skin during the process of removing waterproof makeup. Many women prefer using waterproof make-up for weddings, anniversaries, parties, prom night and for any special occasion as it is long lasting.
