Christmas Decorating Ideas:

Today everyone wishes to uniquely decorate ones home for Christmas. Selecting the right decorations, preparing and arranging them, fixing them at the right places is a time consuming job. Whether you are preparing for an outdoor or indoor Christmas Tree and decorations it is always best for the family to get together and decide on a Christmas Décor Theme. Decide on your theme well before the holiday season begins, so that you can begin collecting items for your decoration based on the theme. The theme might be a simple or a special one, might be a color, a decorating style, or a shape.

Some Christmas Decorating Themes:

1.Country Theme: Decorate the Christmas Tree with wooden ornaments; gingerbread ornaments; raffia; popcorn or cranberry garland; You could make a Barn Scene Centre piece at a focal point typically having browns; reds; greens. Fresh Flowers from the garden, Handmade Christmas Decorations go well with this type of theme. Take an attractive container (preferably silver or crystal) and fill with fruits and vegetables of seasonal colors. For example; apples, grapes, cucumbers, zucchini, red, green or yellow peppers, red and green cabbages, red and green onions, pomegranates, brussel sprouts or limes all work well. You can use this as a piece of décor too.

2.Winter Scene theme: Winter Christmas themes include decorations that depict snowflakes, pinecones, berries, holly, icicles, stars and small birds. Turn your home into a winter wonderland with lacy looking snowflakes that you and your kids can make. Tape them, in groups of two to five-depending on size, to doors, windows, kitchen cabinets, etc. They are fun and easy to make with any white paper. They look especially nice against a dark color background (like a dark wood door).
To make a paper snowflake: Cut white paper into an exact square (any size). Fold by half, twice, forming a square. Then fold corner to corner, once, forming a triangle (leaving one long side of the triangle with all the loose sides and the other long side as one single fold). Cut along all sides, leaving enough places uncut to hold the snowflake together. Be sure to make at least a few cuts deep into the center of the triangle. After it’s cut, unfold the snowflake to see what you have made. Store them flat (unfolded) in a single pile, until you are ready to put them up. If it will be a while, you may want to place them into a flat folder or book. Snowflakes are generally used only one year because they are difficult to remove in one piece. Besides, half the fun is making the snowflakes. You will find, too, that the more you make them the better and more intricate they become, so each year’s snowflakes will be better and better.

3.A Nativity Special Theme You can buy an Outdoor nativity set or an indoor small one or a Table Top Nativity Scene depending upon your space. You can use figurines, Angels,Stars and Nativity Wreaths to decorate your home.Christmas Cards depicting Nativity Scenes can also be used as décor items. Nativity Ornaments for decorating the Christmas Trees can also be used.

4.A Santa Claus Theme: Use Santa Claus ornaments to decorate your home.If you have young children you could fix a game of “Where is Santa” and get someone to wear a Santa Claus outfit and play with them. You could use Santa Claus figurines, Reindeers, North Pole scenes and snowflakes to add to the theme.

5.Children Toys Theme: Toys are a wonderful addition to your seasonal decorations. Displayed on shelves, mantels, on beds, around the tree, on or near the television, or in groupings in corners in hallways, or wherever you would like. Dolls, teddy bears, trains, rocking horses, antique toys, wooden blocks (neatly arranged), drums, horns etc. can all fill even the grumpiest heart with thoughts of childhood and of dreams come true.

6.Victorean Theme: Victorian Christmas Themes incorporate fruit, cookies, berries, figurines, bows, lace, and other trinkets.

7.A Colour Based Theme: Red, gold, blue, winter white, pink or any combination. Focus on the colors you have in your home year 'round and select complimentary colors that bring out the seasonal feeling. If you possess a special Christmas decoration, make that the focal point and use the colors from it for your color scheme. Almost any Christmas decorating is enhanced by adding ribbons and bows, lots of them. If you find a ribbon that you particularly like, use the colors for the decorating scheme throughout your home. Even with a monochromatic scheme, it's important to have some texture for interest. A tree decorated with only balls can look boring. Use garlands, different finishes on the balls, ribbons, nosegays to add different textures and balance.

8.Angels Theme: Angels are a familiar symbol during the holidays, and angel Christmas ornaments continue to rank among the more popular ornament choices depicting an Angels Theme.

9.Ribbons And Wreaths Theme: Ribbons, ribbons everywhere. Little touches of ribbon make all the difference in the overall effect, and to individual displays. Use red, green, white, or holiday print ribbon to decorate and embellish lamps, chairs, pictures, mirrors, tied around throw pillows and even on the branches of your tree. An eye-catching decorating idea for the front door is to make it look like a wrapped Christmas present. To do this, use red plastic outdoor ribbon once vertically, and once horizontally. Make sure a large bow is in the cross point of the two. Also, you can add a big ‘tag’ with the words ‘Welcome’ or ‘Merry Christmas’. You can also use garlands and wreaths to deck up your house.Use garland on more than just the tree. Try them on windows, over doorways, draped over mirrors, mantels and pictures. You can also wrap it around banisters, loop it along the ceiling, or most anywhere. There are a lot of different varieties of garlands: tinsel, paper chains, greenery, foil links, beads, ribbon, and the string-your-own garlands of cranberries, popcorn or marshmallows.

10.Velvet And Crochet Theme: Velvet Bells and other ornaments, Crochet covers and hangings add charm to your décor also. Use matte finished ornaments rather than shiny. Find velour covered balls and decorations. Make a luxurious garland of wide velvet ribbon and tuck in beutiful silk flowers and bows of velvet or gold mesh ribbons.
