Handmade Christmas Gift Ideas:

1.Handmade Gifts Ideas For Family And Friends(contd.)

Family Craft Boxes:

Make something special for that someone special, be it a parent, sibling or friend. A personalized hobby box, decorated or filled with little treasures, is sure to fit the bill.

Materials Needed:
Wooden boxes (sold at craft stores); Fine-grain sandpaper; Latex Wood Primer; Acrylic paints and paintbrushes; Acrylic varnish; Felt; Hot glue gun; Assorted items, such as costume jewelry, foreign coins, or golf tees.

Method:
To prepare the box for painting, lightly sand the wood and then brush a coat of primer on all its surfaces. Once the sealer dries, lightly sand the box once more. Paint the box. This will have to be done in stages (the inside first, the bottom next, and the top and sides last), allowing the paint to dry each time. To paint multicolored stripes, apply strips of Easy Mask KleenEdge tape (sold in most craft or paint stores) in a parallel pattern and paint between them. When the paint dries, remove the tape (it won't peel off the paint), tape over the freshly painted areas and paint new stripes between them. Once the paint dries, apply a coat of acrylic varnish to protect and enhance the colors and let it dry completely. Next, glue a felt liner to the inside of the box. Then glue decorative items that reflect the recipient's interests onto the top. With items that are hard to stick, try gluing bits of felt to the bottoms and then gluing the felt to the box.

Hand Decorated Napkins:

Materials Needed:
Felt; Fabric glue; scissors; Set of machine-washable napkins; Sequins; Mini pom-poms.

Method:
Cut decorative shapes from the felt, such as a dreidel, Christmas tree, or reindeer. Glue the shapes to a corner of each napkin and decorate them with glued-on sequins and/or mini pom-poms.

Homemade Bath Salts:

You can make bath salts for your mothers/grandmothers for Christmas. Take a baggy, about 2 cups of Epsom salt, a drop or two of potpourri oil, and a drop of food coloring. Squish and mix up the contents of the bag for a minute or two, then tie the baggies off with a scrap of pretty ribbon and presto! A pretty gift of bath salts! You can also use beautifully colored, unusually shaped glass containers with corks for under a dollar each.

Christmas Surprise Mugs:

You can give someone a set of Mugs... with a special something tucked inside. Match the Mug to the recipient's taste – hand blown glass for a friend who adores elegance, distressed white for someone who's into vintage style, Ceramic with animal print or writeup for wildlife lovers. Wrap Mug in an accenting ribbon and embellish it with a theme-appropriate gift ornament.

Christmas Tote Bags:

You can deliver special gifts in uniquely wrapped gift bags like Christmas Tree Bags, Santa Claus Bags, Snowman Bags.

Materials Needed:
Paper bag; glue; card stock; Marker; pencil; fake gems; glitter; mini bells; hole punch; stapler.

Method:
You can use 8 1/2-inch-tall bags or larger bags, if necessary. Use a pencil and a ruler to lightly mark a triangle on a green paper gift bag. Fold along these lines, then smooth out the folds and lay the bag flat. Decorate inside the triangle with swags of glue and glitter, then glue on fake gems and circles hole-punched from white or colored paper. Allow the glue to dry, then place a small gift inside the bag. Refold the bag and staple the sides together at the back, then glue a yellow card stock star to the top of the tree.
