Diwali Puja Thali Ingredients:

During Diwali, Lakshmi puja is an integral part of the festival. Just as in any Hindu puja, on Diwali also the puja thali must contain all the essential ingredients necessary for the puja process. The puja thali is a plate made out of metal such as brass, copper, steel or silver or gold or maybe of clay with beautiful decorations. The thalis contain ingredients for puja such as:

  1. Puja Havan Samagri
  2. Ghee
  3. Camphor, betel nuts; paan leaves; honey; turmeric, sandalwood; holy powders - abir, other puja samagris (you could buy ready made lakshmi puja samagris available in the market)
  4. Coconut
  5. taali (puja bell); dhupia (for incense sticks);
  6. Roli (vermilion powder) and chawal (rice grains); moli (sacred thread)
  7. Panchagavya (5 products obtained from cows - curd; cow urine; cow dung; cow milk; cow ghee - these are holy ingredients used in pujas)
  8. Akshat (unbroken rice grains offered to gain wealth and prosperity)
  9. Flowers and garlands;
  10. Panchamitra set
  11. Diyas, Niranjan (five - lamp diya set which is used to perform the aartis)
  12. Naivedya - fruits, dry fruits and sweets offered as bhog.
