With the spreading of Christianity, more familiar traditions, celebrations and symbols of spring got associated with Easter, like Christ coming back to life from death. Likewise, eggs and chicks symbolize new life. Since ancient times, eggs have been a symbol of spring. An egg also represents a symbol of the rock tomb out of which Christ came out when he arose again. The chick, which hatches out of an egg, symbolizes new life or re-birth. There are some Easter symbols which have a meaning. Many Easter customs come from the ancient world such as the white lily, the symbol of the resurrection, which is the special Easter flower. Rabbits and colored eggs have come from pagan antiquity and have a meaning and is a symbol of new life. There is also Easter Monday egg rolling, whose origins has come from Europeans, is a custom that has become a tradition on the lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C. The name Easter comes from Eostre, who was an ancient Anglo-Saxon goddess, originally of the dawn. The annual spring festival was held in her honor. Some Easter customs have come from this and other old Christian spring festivals. Other customs are followed from the Passover feast of the Jews, which is observed in memory of their freedom from Egypt. Keeping the customs and traditions of the Christian religion intact, here are some symbols which have a deep meaning for them as well and are related to Easter events. We will look at their meanings as most of these symbols are used only during the Easter season. There are more symbols that are a part of the Christian life and worship which is constant through out the year.

Easter Bunny:

In ancient times, the rabbit or the hare was a symbol of abundant new life and it reminds one of the spring time and a new life. Easter eggs have been acknowledged as a symbol of life which is continuous life and fertility, since pre-Christian spring celebrations. Since it is given as springtime gifts by the ancient Greeks, Persians and Chinese during their spring festivals, the Easter egg appears in Pagan mythology as well, where it is supposedly that the earth and heaven has taken its form with the amalgamation of two halves of an egg. Eggs, which represent new life, have been a symbol of spring since ancient times. During Easter, we give eggs as gifts as they are a symbol of the festival. The advent of the spring season and Easter coincide together, so the celebrations are very colorful. The appearance of Easter Bunny and the beautifully eggs brought by the Easter Bunny make the festival more colorful and add vibrancies to the festival. One night before Easter, the children wait patiently for the Easter Bunny to bring their gift baskets filled with bright colored eggs and toys and chocolates. Like Santa Claus, Easter Bunny of Easter is similar too because both bring gifts to children, one day before the festival arrives Christians adopted the egg as an Easter symbol because of the relationship between Easter and the renewal of life. It is important not to dismiss the Pagan connection here. But the Pagan connection here should not be dismissed.
