Festive Party Planning

How To Be A Perfect Host During This Festive Season:
i. The Hostess And The Home:

The Ground Rules: Keep the home clean and tidy (this doesnt mean you need designer decor), and half the battle is won.
The Details: Have the house swept, swabbed and tidied in the late afternoon - people are more likely to visit in the evening than the morning. Ensure the bathroom is always clean. Put on outdoor lights and lamps at various levels in the evening. Do have flowers. And keep your home smelling sweet.
A Party? Make up a list of everything you need to take care of, right down to the last detail. Some broad areas to remember... Spruce up the approach to your house. Apply a stain resistant agent such as Scotchgard™ to your furniture. Put in special touches, if it is an occasion - for a festival, you may put in festival-related decor.
Impromptu Guests? Clear in a minute - assemble newspapers and magazines in place in the newspaper rack; put TV and DVD remotes near the TV, DVD; pick up glasses and plates and hand them over to the maid or deposit in the kitchen; straighten carpets / durries and cushions, draw curtains. Or, welcome guests and clear only the essentials.
Guests Staying Over? Gauge what a person will need for a few days he's to stay over - a clean room, bed and bedclothes, a mirror; shelving space in the cupboard, hangers, a clock and electrical points in working condition, a clean bathroom - these are the basics. For added comfort, put in bedside tables, a floor covering; table lamps and some books. For more formal guests, put in a writing dek, pens, paper, maps (in case they are new to the city) and so on.
