Poipu Beach was named America's Best Beach by The Travel Channel, ranking top among the 10 "best" beaches selected nationwide. This beach is a series of golden sand crescents, strung together where beach-goers will find snorkeling, swimming, a natural ocean wading pool, boogie-boarding and surfing. Poipu Beach Park is the top choice for families. A series of curious reef arrangements flank every powdery sand beach with each featuring its own distinct coastal environment. Safety at Poipu Beach is considered the best with an on-duty lifeguard every day of the week. The cove is shallow and calm, perfect for little ones to splash around, while snorkelers young and old can walk west of the cove to a sandy bank and explore the fascinating reef. There are other excellent beaches to explore from Poipu Beach. Accessed from Scouting Horn Road, west of Poipu Beach Park, Baby Beach is a safe cove great for children. Shipwreck Beach is a sweeping stretch of white sand east of Poipu that has a few miles of coastal trails to explore. It’s popular with surfers and has some Kauai resorts to choose from as well. Two miles from the cusp of Poipu Road is Mahaulepu Beach, a breathtaking expanse of caramel sand with a very secluded feeling. The beach is privately owned yet allows pubic access until 6pm in the winter and 7pm in the summer. Brennecke’s beach is an extension of Poipu Beach Park offering many things to do for everyone and Lawai Beach is a narrow strip of soft sand also popular for snorkeling and surfing. A Napali Coast tour is a must-do activity when visiting Kauai. The many ways to explore the north shore of Napali make it even more popular, catering to a number of different interests and allowing for discovery from different aspects of Kauai’s geography. The Napali Coast stretches for fifteen miles along the northwest where warm ocean waters meet plunging cliffs continuing thousands of feet into the blue depths. Kauai activities around this intensely scenic shoreline vary and each tour has its own agenda. One of the most pristine and beautiful shorelines in the world, the Napali Coast remains well-protected because of its secluded location. Some tour operators will also take the boat through some coastal sea caves with one featuring a beautiful waterfall. Boat tours range immensely in price and also include a number of different onboard amenities like food and beverages, restrooms, available shade and so on.  E.Go For A Helicopter Tour:
To get magnificent panoramic views of the ruffled edges of the cliffs of the Nai Pali Coast you can arrange for a helicopter ride along the cliffs. On these trips you'll also see close-ups of spectacular waterfalls and all the nicks and crannies. Most helicopter companies operate out of the town in Lihui, and all have top-notch reputations for safety.
Kauai helicopter tours are considered ecologically friendly ways to see the sights without harming sensitive flora and fauna. Tours will cover the North Shore and head to Olokele Canyon, the gateway to the famed Waimea Canyon. You’ll hear in depth narration as you soar over unspoiled cliffs, majestic mountains, isolated beaches and rushing waterfalls. Kauai helicopter tours also fly above Mount Waialeale Crater, Hanalei Valley and over Lumahai Beach. Each of the tours vary but most cover all of the major sites and last about an hour. One of only four NTBG’s in the United States, one on the north shore, one in Maui and one in Florida. Well-informed docents lead you on the tour, which is guided, and you have to have reservations. Kilauea Lighthouse, is beautiful. The Guava Plantation, Princeville, Hanalei, Lumahai Beach and other sights along the way are also breathtaking.  H.Shopping:
You have to bring gifts home, so we have come up with some suggestions for your trinkets. Wal-Mart and K-mart have all the usual trinkets, but they both have a good selection and good prices. If you are looking for something a bit more special, we recommend the Hawaiian Trading Post. They have the largest selection of Niihau Shell Leis on the island, and it’s worth a stop just to see the incredible work by the women on Niihau. Truly and art form that is best appreciated when you see how small the shells are! They also have a huge inventory of all kinds of jewelry and one side of the store has beautiful monkeypod wood bowls, shirts, and other items.  I.Romantic Dinner:
The Beach House Restaurant serves fantastic meals, and has breathtaking views of the ocean and surf. Enjoy an early cocktail or sunset dinner from this popular restaurant.  J.Watch The Sunset:

Poipu Beach, Kauai is an easy 14-mile drive (25-30 minutes) from the Lihue airport.
 By Ship:
There is now also a deep water port at Nawiliwili for cruise ships. Norwegian Cruise Lines offers cruises between the islands that start and end in Honolulu. Getting Around: Rental car is the best way to really see the island-- and the only way to get to some remote (and scenic) sites. Most major rental car companies have offices at the Lihue airport or nearby by shuttle bus.
The Kaua`i bus is perhaps the only other way to get around, but will not go to some rural attractions, such as Koke`e. Still, if you are on a budget, this bus will get you around and between the major population centers, such as Lihu`e and Kapa`a, and the major resort/beach areas.
One other option for transport on the island is bicycle. The east side of the island (including Lihue and Kapaa) has plans for a major bike path under development as of early 2005. Parts of this path exist, but the major connections between towns are still along the major highways. Eventually, the entire east side of the island will be connected by exclusive bikeways, making nonautomobile transportation a real option.
There are two main highways on Kauai, both starting in Lihue. Kaumualii Highway (state route 50) heads to the west, through the towns of Kalaheo, Hanapepe, Waimea, and Kekaha before ending at the Na Pali Coast. Kuhio Highway (state route 56) heads north from Lihue, through Kapaa, Kilauea, Princeville, and Hanalei, ending at the other side of Na Pali.
