5.New York - The Big Apple Romantic Sojourn:

The metropolis of New York (also referred to as "New York City" or "the Big Apple") is at the mouth of the Hudson River in southern New York state. It is part of the Mid-Atlantic region on the Eastern Seaboard of the USA. The New York Metropolitan Area extends across three states—including lower New York (including parts of Long Island), northern New Jersey and parts of southwestern Connecticut. New York City with its diverse cultural institutions, places of entertainment and sightseeing opportunities, attracts a lot of tourists each year.

Things To Do / See:

A.Go To The Top of Empire State Building:
Once the tallest building in the world, it still is the most elegant. It commands the city with striking presence and grace. Visit the open-air observation deck on the 86th floor for spectacular views. This is a must visit and the best place in New York to have your picture taken with the city spread out below. Each year on St. Valentine's Day, several couples take their vows here.

B.Evening At Times Square:
Wait till dark, and then see the neon lights and huge billboards of Times Square. It is a colourful, noisy and exciting place with plenty of theatres and cafes. Get lost in each other as you mingle with the excitement.

C.Central Park:
A romantic horse-drawn carriage ride through Central Park is a wonderful cozy way to see this magical part of New York. You can find them on the southeast corner of the park at Central Park West (59th St.) between 5th & 6th Ave. Don’t forget to ask for a blanket if it’s cool! A daytime walk through Central Park can also be very romantic, as can be an amble across the Brooklyn Bridge. On a beautiful day or evening, visit the Boathouse Cafe in Central Park. Enjoy light fare on the umbrella-shaded deck looking out to the Lake and Bethesda Fountain. After, go for a romantic boatride. In season, at Central Park's Loeb Boathouse you can rent rowboats or take a ride in an authentic Venetian gondola. It is located on the park's east side between 74th and 75th Streets.

D.Go Ice Skating together:
You can try Ice Skating at Rockefeller Center, or just sit by the rinkside cafe and watch the skaters.

E.See A Broadway Show:
For show times and tickets call The Broadway Line (212.302.4111) or check The New York Times. For on the day tickets try the TKS half-price tickets. One is located at the center of Times Square on Broadway. Be aware that TKS, while discounted, takes cash only. Try Off -Broadway shows for the same professionalism at a lower price. TKS may have tickets for these shows as well. Dine later at the Viceversa 325 W. 51 st. @ 9th Avenue. which is One of the most romantic spots for before or after the Theatre. It's a stylish restaurant specializing in Italian Cuisine.

F.See A Ballet / Opera:
Get lost in a love theme ballet at New York State Theater in Lincoln Center, or your favourite opera at New York State Theater in Lincoln Center or Metropolitan Opera House in Lincoln Center at your own leisure and cherish the moment forever.

G.Goto A Nightclub:
Everything from top shows on Broadway, to dance clubs, to live entertainment is at your doorstep. New York City nightlife especially comes alive on weekends, when crowds pack in wherever a hot band is playing. You can also visit the jazz joints of the West Village and the intimate dives in the East Village. Almost every style of music and nightlife is represented in Manhattan. Since the hotspots change often, it is best to refer to one of the local entertainment magazines to see what's “happening” at the moment.

H.Island Trips:
The Staten Island Ferry is one of travel's greatest free deals! Make your way down to Battery Park, and set sail for the ride past the Statue Of Liberty and see awesome views of Lower Manhattan. Pack a little snack and find a quiet corner of the boat for a romantic picnic at sea! You can also go for The World Yacht dinner cruise is a 3-hour voyage to enchantment. It features the a superb four-course dinner created by some of New York's best chefs and prepared fresh onboard by World Yacht's executive chef. L.Lincoln Center:
If you're not into art, maybe a little music will put you in the mood. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts sets the stage for romantic concerts, operas and ballets. Whether its the NY Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera House, or an intimate event at Alice Tully Hall you'll strike a note in the heart of your loved one here.

M.Romantic Shopping Areas:Walk along hand in hand on 5th Avenue for some of the best shopping in the world, names like Bloomingdales, Tiffany, Saks, are found here.

How To Get To New York:

By Air:
Three large airports (and several small ones) serve the region. John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport are large international airports while LaGuardia Airport is a busy domestic airport. All three airports are run by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Connections between airports are poor at best. New York New York Airport Express runs buses between LGA and JFK. ETS Air Shuttle runs (very infrequent) buses between LGA and Newark Airport. A taxi is your best, if expensive, option when changing airports in New York - unless you have plenty of time!
MacArthur Airport in Islip on Long Island, Westchester County Airport (HPN), near White Plains, NY, Stewart International Airport, Teterboro Airport, in Teterboro, NJ(for general aviation and recieves no coomercial flights) are other smaller airports.

By Train:
Amtrak operates from New York Penn Station. Amtrak's Acela express train provides regular fast commuter service between major points on the east coast from Washington, D.C. up to Boston, with stops at Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Haven, and Providence. Direct Amtrak services are available to points along the East Coast down to Florida; to points between New York and Chicago (including Pittsburgh, and Cleveland); to New York State (including Albany, Rochester, Buffalo and Niagara Falls); and to Toronto and Montreal in Canada. Service to California (three days) requires a change of train in Chicago. Popular trains leaving near rush hours can fill up quickly: it's a good idea to make reservations online and pick up your ticket at one of the electronic kiosks. New York City is served by three commuter railroads:
Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) operates from New York Penn Station with service to points in Long Island with stops at Jamaica Station, Long Island City, Hunters Point, and others in Queens and Atlantic Avenue station in Brooklyn.
Metro-North Rail Road (Metro North) operates from Grand Central Terminal to points north and east of the city (Westchester, Putnam, Duchess Counties in New York, and points in the state of Connecticut).
New Jersey Transit operates from New York Penn Station to points in New Jersey.

By Bus:
Greyhound is the largest and oldest private bus company in the US, and operates its east-coast hub out of Manhattan's Port Authority Bus Terminal. Recently Peter Pan Bus Company has come to dominate bus travel from New York to Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, coordinating some schedules with Greyhound. The Port Authority Bus Terminal also hosts a dozen or so smaller bus companies, which generally offer service along the Boston-to-DC regional axis. Limoliner is a bus service geared to the high end and business travelers with on board attendant, on board food service and Internet connectivity. It travels between New York and Boston daily. There are cheap bus services also known as chinatoun buses.

Parking Details:

Getting Around New York:

The New York City Transit Authority issues MetroCards for using the bus and subway system in the city. Cards can be bought online, at stations (either from a vending machine or from a token booth), or at many grocery stores and newstands (look for a MetroCard sign on the store window).

1.Subway: The New York City subway is easily the best way to travel around. Free Subway Maps are available from any token booth attendants. Token booth attendants are can also be very helpful in advising you which line to take to your destination.
2.By Ferry: Ferries provide an interesting alternative to getting around New York. The most famous ferry is the Staten Island Ferry, running from the tip of Manhattan at Battery Park to Staten Island. The ferry carries passengers and bicycles only, runs every 15 minutes during rush hours, and is free.
3.By Taxi: Yellow Cabs Real NYC taxis, Livery or Black Car (limousines) Known as limousines or limos, these cars may only be called by phone, are flat rate rather than metered are available.
4.By Car: Best advice is that a car is not only unnecessary but also inadvisable; street parking is practically nonexistent near crowded areas and tourist attractions, and garage parking ranges from very expensive to prohibitively expensive.
