Valentine's Day Happy Valentine's Day(2008) From 101lifeStyle.com Valentine's Day Romantic Destinations: Valentine's Day Romantic Cities: 6.San Francisco - A Romantic City By The Bay: San Francisco is a bustling, cosmopolitan city in California, the centerpiece of the Bay Area, well-known for its diverse ethnic and political communities, hilly terrain, world-class restaurants, and scenic beauty. So much to see and do, it's no wonder why Tony Bennett left his heart there or why Scott MacKenzie wants you to go there with flowers in your hair. San Francisco is quite possibly the most romantic city in the USA! The ocean, the architecture, landscapes and atmosphere make "San Fran" a must for romantic travel. Things To Do / See: A.Go to The Golden Gate Bridge: No romantic getaway in San Francisco is complete without seeing it at least once! Besides driving across it, you'll want to view it from a good vantage point. We think the best place to see the Golden Gate Bridge is from the Marin Headlands on the north side (look for Battery Spencer on Conzelman Rd). About an hour before sunset is when it seems to look its best! Golden Gate Bridge. Even if you've only got a couple days for your romantic getaway in San Francisco, head down to this lovely place, one of the finest city parks anywhere. Over 1000 acres of rose gardens, lakes and green space framing the magnificent Golden Gate. And the Bridge is right there if you decide you'd like to walk or cycle across. B.Fisherman’s Wharf: The heart of San Francisco's tourism industry, a district of souvenir shops, restaurants and bars on the Bay. Enjoy A Gourmet Icecream as you check out dozens of sea lions lounging on pylons as you look off at Alcatraz Island on the horizon. C.Watch The Sunset: Twin Peaks has fabulous 360 deg panoramic views of San Francisco and the Bay area. Another fine spot for romantic evenings in San Francisco is the sunset from Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill and Crissy Field, or arrange for a sunset airplane flight. The Marina and Crissy Field provide a west-facing view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Crissy Field: Part of Presidio National Park, great for walking along the waves and enjoying the views of the ocean, the boats, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Marin County. D.Lombard street: Located between Hyde St. and Leavenworth St. you can Walk hand in hand along the steep, flower-adorned switchbacks of this famous street line some of the most beautiful houses in San Francisco, and will give you newfound appreciation for power steering. E.Day Trips: You can goto napa valley and Sonoma valley or sunny Sausalito just across the Golden Gate Bridge for a perfect romantic day trip. The Napa and Sonoma Valleys are full of excellent restaurants, spas, gorgeous scenery, and of course, some of the best wine in the world. It's a great afternoon getaway from the city, with nice views across the bay, a very walkable main street with just the right mix of shops, bistros, galleries and cafes. There's some great little romantic inns right on the waterfront like The Inn Above Tide (great view of the city across the Bay), and some B&B's tucked away in the hills. F.Ride A Cable Car: The signature way to get around the city, it’s hard to walk the streets without feeling the urge to hop into one of the forty cable cars criss-crossing their way through the city at any time. It’s by no means one of the most unusual things to do in San Francisco, it is convenient and almost a prerequisite for any traveller here. G.Drink at The Cellar: The dim light adds weight to the name, but this bar is one of the favorite hangouts for both locals and tourists. Its subtle and tender décor makes a stop here one of the more romantic things to do in San Francisco. A perfect cap to a leisurely stroll around the city, the Cellar has a wide variety of tasty and moderately priced cocktails – perfect for chasing the evening into night. H.Walk On The Beaches: If you're feeling adventurous, there are several nude beaches in the area. If you'd prefer to keep your clothes on, try Baker Beach below the Presidio for a nice view of the Golden Gate Bridge (albeit from the west), or Ocean Beach near the Cliff House. Ocean Beach has a west-facing view. I.Romantic Dinner: Pier 39: Not just one romantic San Francisco restaurant, but at least 10 establishments along this popular Fisherman’s Wharf section of the San Francisco waterfront. Our choice for romantic dining for two would be Neptunes Palace Seafood Restaurant. The view across the Bay to the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz is outstanding. Neptunes has been called one of the best seafood restaurants in San Francisco. Forbes Island: If you need more than just a view of the Bay, how about a romantic dinner in the middle of the Bay?! Forbes Island is actually located on the only manmade floating island in the world. Accessible by 27-passenger boat from Pier 39. It’s already an experience before you taste anything, but the French-California dishes are gourmet-quality. An evening’s sail past the sea lions and out to the island is one of the most romantic things to do in the San Francisco Bay area. J.Visit Parks For Great Views And Picnics: Grand View Park: It is a small, elevated park in the Inner Sunset District, San Francisco, California. It is surrounded by 14th and 15th Avenues, as well as Noriega Street. Grand View Park despite its small size offers stupendous views over downtown San Francisco, the Golden Gate Park, to the Pacific Ocean, the Marin headlands, and across to the Sutro Tower. Some residents of the Inner Sunset refer to Grand View Park as Turtle Hill. Marin headlands: The Marin Headlands has one of the most breath taking views of the Bay Area and the Golden Gate Bridge, it is truly a treasure. There is a place called Hawk Hill way higher and a lot of bird watchers come here because you can see many birds flying. Pack a picnic hamper and some wine and enjoy the food and the views. How To Get To San Francisco: By Air: There are three airports in the San Francisco Bay Area: San Francisco International(IATA: SFO) located about 10 mi (16 km) south of the city. Oakland International(IATA: OAK) in the East Bay. Mineta San Jose International(IATA: SJC) in Silicon Valley, about 1 hour south of San Francisco. By Train: Amtrak serves the Bay Area with long-distance and intercity trains, San Francisco’s long distance station is across the bay, outside city limits. Passengers arrive in Emeryville in the East Bay and may take an Amtrak California Thruway bus over the Bay Bridge to San Francisco's Amtrak stop at 101 The Embarcadero (near the Ferry Building) and several downtown destinations. Travelers on some shorter distance Amtrak routes can also transfer to BART trains at the Richmond or Oakland Coliseum stations (see below). Alternatively, riders approaching the Bay Area from the south may transfer to Caltrain at San Jose's Diridon Station for a direct ride to Fourth and King Streets in San Francisco. Amtrak can be contacted at +1 800 872-7245. Caltrain operates a regional rail service from San Jose to its San Francisco terminal at Fourth and King. The service also runs between San Jose and Gilroy during rush hour. Caltrain is very useful for travel between San Francisco and cities of the Peninsula, Silicon Valley or South Bay. By Bus: Greyhound, has frequent intercity service from San Francisco’s beautiful but decaying Transbay Terminal at First and Mission streets. Megabus, travels to and from Los Angeles, with three trips in each direction. Buses stop at the bus shelter in front of the Caltrain station at Fourth St and King St. Fares start at just $1 when ordered well in advance. By Boat: In many ways a boat is the ideal way to approach San Francisco. The city's spectacular skyline is best appreciated from the water, and from the deck of a boat the bay and its bridges and islands can be viewed as a whole. Cruise ships and private yachts are regular visitors to San Francisco, and passenger ferries regularly link other Bay Area cities to San Francisco. Ferries run to San Francisco from Larkspur, Sausalito and Tiburon in Marin County, from Vallejo in Solano County and from Alameda and Oakland in the East Bay. In San Francisco the ferries dock at one or both of the city’s two piers at Fisherman's Wharf and the Ferry Building. By Car: There are four major highway approaches to San Francisco. US 101 comes up the eastern side of the SF peninsula and is the most direct route from the south, although it often backs up with traffic. Interstate 280 is a more scenic route into the city from the same direction, but with poorer connections than 101. Interstate 80 approaches the city from the east over the San Francisco Bay Bridge. From the north, US 101 takes you over the Golden Gate Bridge. Getting Around San Francisco: Walking and Biking can be an enticing option to get from one neighborhood to another, so long as you are aware of where you are and keep your street smarts. Public Transit: Transport services within San Francisco are provided by several bodies; they are separate organisations and although they have many interchange stations, tickets are not normally transferable across the systems (except for monthly or longer period passes). The major transit systems are: Muni - streetcars, metro, buses and cable cars within San Francisco city BART - regional rail services across the Bay Area CalTrain - regional rail services to San José. By Taxi: Taxis in San Francisco are, for a large city, surprisingly inefficient and expensive. By Car: Perpetually-clogged traffic, steep hills, a confusing system of one-way streets downtown, expensive parking, and a fleet of parking control officers who enforce parking laws with zeal can make driving in downtown extremely frustrating.
