Valentine's Day Gift Ideas:

8.Valentine’s Day Gifts For Classmates:

i.Handmade Friendship Ring:
Materials Needed:
Scissors; Craft foam or card stock; Faux fur fabric (optional); White glue; Small hole punch; Pipe cleaner; Faux jewels, buttons, craft foam shapes; Marker or pen (optional);
Method:
Cut a heart shape from craft foam or card stock. If you use fabric, first glue a small piece of the fabric to foam or card stock, allow the glue to dry, then cut out the heart shape. Unless you're working with foam (see Cupid's Tip, above), use a small hole punch to make 2 holes, centered, in the heart. Cut a 4-inch length of pipe cleaner. Bend it in half and push the ends through the holes from front to back. Place the ring on your child's finger to measure the size. Twist the pipe cleaner ends together until the ring fits comfortably. Remove the ring and trim and tuck any excess pipe cleaner. Glue on faux jewels, buttons, craft foam shapes, or other items for decoration. Allow the glue to dry. Use a marker or pen to write a few words on the back of the ring, if you like.

ii.Valentine Pencil:
Materials Needed:
About 1 foot of narrow ribbon; New pencil; 4 heart-shaped beads; Scissors; Red card stock; Tacky glue; Marker or pen;
Method:
Tie the ribbon around the top of the pencil and secure it with a tight double knot, leaving 2 fairly even ends. Thread the beads onto one end of the ribbon, knot the end at the length you want, and trim. Cut 2 identical hearts from card stock. Glue the hearts together with the other half of the ribbon sandwiched inside as shown. Knot and trim the ribbon. Write a message on the heart.
Tips: If the ribbon slides down the pencil, glue it in place.

iii.Valentine’s Day Card:
Card stock (heavy paper), crayons or markers, heart shaped lollipop, and scissors;
Method:
Fold the Paper halfway and draw a picture of an animal so it looks like it is holding something on the top flap. Write any message that you wish to convey on the side. Punch a hole at the top of the hands and at the bottom. Insert a heart shaped lollipop into the holes so that it looks like the bear is holding the lollipop.You can decorate the card as you like.

iv.Heart Paperweights:
Materials Needed:
self-hardening clay; water; rolling pin; heart-shaped cookie cutter; water-based acrylic paint; beads/shells; popsicle sticks; plastic knives;
Method:
Take some clay and have fun exploring the texture and coolness of the clay (note: you may need to add extra water for smaller hands to make the clay softer). Roll the clay into a ball. With your rolling pin (that has been designated for non-cooking projects), roll out the ball into a flat pancake. Take your heart-shaped cookie cutter and cut hearts into the clay; add beads, shells, etc. (optional). Let clay harden for a day. Paint your hearts with water-based acrylic paint.

v.Valentine Door Knob Hanger:
Cardboard; Paper; Scissors; Paint, markers or crayons; Clear adhesive paper if desired (like Contact brand); Rubber cement, glue or glue stick;
Method:
Cut cardboard and paper out into a doorknob pattern, rectangular in shape approximately 8" long and 3" wide, with a circular cut out at one end for the doorknob measuring an approximate 2" radius. Create a Valentines Day message or picture on the piece of paper. Decorate any way you like. Glue picture to the piece of cardboard with the rubber cement. If you want the doorknob hanger to be more durable, cover it with a piece of the clear adhesive paper before cutting (available in most grocery or hardware stores or wherever Contact paper is sold).
