Valentine's Day Gift Ideas:

9.Valentine’s Day Gifts For Teachers:

i.Handmade Paper Roses:
Materials Needed:
Tissue or Crepe paper color of your choice; Stamens or small piece of yellow Tissue/Crepe paper as substitute; Tissue paper green for leaves; Green floral tape; Covered floral wire; Beading wire; Glue;
Method:
For The Rose: Cut 15 petals for a full rose.Centre 3 petals, row 2 will have 5 petals, and the outer layer 7 petals. For a smaller rose, leave the outer layer.
For the leaf: Cut 2 , glue 1 on top and the other underneath the wire.
Each full rose is composed of fifteen petals or more. With your beading wire wrap around the folded stamens or substitute anchoring it to the covered floral wire stem. The first three petals are overlapped slightly and rolled around the stamens (or a piece of yellow fringed tissue/Crepe Paper used as a substitute) to form the center of the rose. Be sure you keep your petals level as you roll them. Wrap a piece of beading wire around the base of your petals to anchor them to the stem wire and the stamens. If your rose center is tightly closed you may not need the stamens. The second row consists of five petals. These are also overlapped slightly and arranged around the rose center so that all the petal edges are staggered. Wrap with beading wire to hold this row of petals to the stem wire and the rose center. Row three is composed of seven petals, again overlapped slightly and staggered as you arrange them to form the outer layer of your rose. Wrap with beading wire anchoring the outer layer of petals to the rose base being careful to keep the tops of your petals level to give your rose a more natural look. Cover the base of the rose down onto the stem wire with floral tape pulling it gently so it will stick to itself as you roll. The top corners of each petal should be rolled to the outside around a pencil or small dowel. If using Crepe Paper you can stretch the edge of the petal slightly to ruffle it.
Leaf: For each leaf cut two leaf shapes. Place the beading wire in the center of the leaf between the two and glue in place. Cover the wire with floral tape and add along the rose stem wire as needed.

ii.Valentine Bookmarker:
Materials Needed:
Used Valentine’s Day Greeting Cards; Posterboard or Cardboard; Crayons, Markers, or Paint; Glue;
Method:
Cut a strip from the posterboard or thin cardboard, about 8-inches x 2-inches. Cut out the picture on the front of a greeting card. Glue the picture at the top of the strip. Allow the glue to dry. Write an message on the strip if you want. If the bookmark is a gift, you can simply write "to:" and "From:". If your picture is a Christmasy picture, write a Christmas message on your strip. To make your bookmark more durable, cover it with clear contact paper or laminate it.

iii.Valentine Pen Holder:
Empty coffee can or oatmeal carton; Construction paper; Colored pencils; Markers; Old magazines;
Method:
First, wrap a piece of construction paper (trimmed to fit) around the container and tape or glue together the overlapping edges. Decorate the canister with personalized designs or magazine cutouts. Next, use a craft knife (adults only) to cut a series of X-shaped openings in the plastic lid for inserting pencils, paintbrushes, scissors and a ruler. Finally, glue a magnet to the side of the can for holding a few paper clips (remember, keep the magnet away from your computer).

iv.Valentine’s Day Card:
Materials Needed:
Fairly stiff white paper (lamp shade paper works well; get it white on one side, colored on the other); Red construction paper (or other kind of paper); A sharp needle or piercer (like a small skewer); glue (optional);
Method:
Draw or make a template first and trace around a heart for your basic outside shape. Create a simple pattern. Embroidery books can give you some ideas. You can draw this freehand or create one pattern and trace it at even intervals. Use the utility knife to make straight and curved cuts (this should be done by an adult); use the needle or skewer to pierce holes. Make sure to go all one way from back to front of the surface you want to show. On straight lines that have been cut, use the needle to raise one edge of each line open to a slit. On curved lines, use the needle to roll the curve to the inside and open it up so the card color will show through. Glue baby's breath, other dried flowers, or small silk flowers to the back of your heart, so they extend out the top. Glue the pierced heart to a card of contrasting color (white on red is nice), putting glue on the outer edges only. Glue a small bow to the top. Write a message on the front and inside. Do not flatten. Deliver your card in a small box.

v.Picture Frame:
Small Box Top or Bottom; Paint (Optional); Cord; Photo; Silk Flowers; Low Temp Glue Gun or Tacky Glue & Clothes Pins;
Method:
Paint box if desired. We painted a small red valentine candy box with a pink paint marker so it wouldn't look so much like a Valentine box. Cut photo to fit inside the box. Glue a piece of cord to the back for a hanger. Glue flowers around the outside. If you are using tacky glue, you can use clothes pins to hold the flowers in place while they dry.
