Valentine's Day Party:

Valentine's Day Party Tips For Teens:

If your teenager wishes to call friends and throw a Valentine's Day party, make sure that you are ready to face the challenge. Here are a few games, crafts, ideas and tips to make it fun and safe.

image1. You must be very strict with the rules and make sure you make all rules clear from the very beginning.
2. Establish a list of who is invited and how many are allowed to come. Allow very few exceptions to these list should things change a couple of days before the party. Allow no excepts the day of the party.
3. Do not hold an 'open house'. If your teen's friends are coming for the party, they should stay until the end of the party. And 'party crashers' normally start trouble.
4. Dimming the lights is ok to do, but shutting them off is a no-no. Try using white Christmas lights strung around the room, with more lighting at the food table.
5. No drinking or drugs should be permitted. Say it loud and clear, you will call the parents, (or the police should things get out of hand), to pick them up should they show up drunk, or should they bring alcohol to the party.
6. Establish that you more than welcome other parents calling you about the party and they can come too. This is a great way to meet the parents of your teenager's peers, and get some help at the party.
7. Don't hover, but do make frequent trips to the food table to refresh the chip bowl.
8. Keep them in one room, or area, of the house. This will help avoid wandering around and 'losing' a few people.
9. Now here is one of the most important tips: Serve good food.
10. Teens are looking for a party that is not too sophisticated, yet not "kid stuff".
11. Music is very important, but ice breakers & games are needed to fill in. At thirteen, emphasis is on games & food. At eighteen, it's music and talk.
12. Food should be plain and plentiful. Served in grown-up fashion-buffet-style. Teens also say it's fun to cook at the party too.
13. Help your teenager organize some of the games beforehand, and then help when needed at the party. Here are a few ideas for games:
imageA.Match The Heart: Cut large hearts out of red construction paper. Cut hearts in half, using a zig-zag or other shapes, making each one unique. You should have enough half hearts so that each person at the party gets one. As your guest arrive hand them one of the half hearts and tell them to find their match by finding the other half.

B.Guess The Couple:
Write names of famous couples on mailing labels. When you're guests arrive place one label on their back. They need to guess who the famous couple is by asking yes or no questions to other people at the party. They may not ask the same person more than one question. This is a great ice breaker.

imageC.Candy Hearts:
A simple variation of a guessing game that is always a hit! Fill a jar with candy hearts(doesn't matter which kind), and have guests guess how many hearts are in the jar. The person who comes close without going over is the winner and wins the jar of candy.

Valentine's Day Party Themes For Teens:

1.Fortune Telling Party:
This Valentine’s Day organize a Fortune telling party for your teenager when he insists on a party. You can invite a fortune teller in a gypsy( or any other costume)at the party and let the teens have fun. imageYou can keep the décor a little mysterious with coloured lights, glow items and beaded drapes at the entrance and keep a table with two chairs ready for the fortune teller. The central part of a fortune telling party is telling fortunes and reading tarot cards. Have a least one table with a crystal ball. If you can't find one, you can always use a large snow globe of some kind. You can play 60's or '70s type music works well for this "psychedellic" party theme. Snack and finger foods are most popular, since they can be eaten while participating in games and readings. For those not interested in fortune telling keep separate activities and games for entertainment… for eg:
A.Sweet Fortune: Kids and grownups alike are crazy for sweets. This activity is a fun version of fortune-telling that involves a big bowl of Valentine candy! Have your guests grab a small handful of candy from the bowl and interpret their fortune according to the list below. The more of each color, the greater the influence will be in your life. The great part of this game is if you don't like your fortune, eat it up and try your luck again!
Red: Love
Pink: Friendship
White: Popularity and Power
Purple: Loneliness
Green: Wishes - For each green one, you can make a wish that will come true!
Blue: Wealth

B.Fortune Balloon Drop Dance: Props-Write on a small slip of paper different fortunes. ("You will be lucky in love", "You will be wealthy and wise", etc. And on some say "Lucky You wins a prize".) In each balloon (enough for all), insert one of slips, then blow it up and tie it.
Partytime-Release balloons during a dance. Let guests do what comes naturally--break the balloons. Prizes are awarded to guests that find the "Lucky You win a prize" slips.

image2.Music Party:
You can also throw a music party if your teen has an inclination towards Music. You can hire a Dj for the event if you are not on a stringent budget. You can create your own decorative centerpiece. Place three or more votive candleholders (clear, frosted or cracked ice) in the center of your tables or clustered together at evenly spaced intervals on a banquet type table. You can increase your brilliant light by placing a mirror under one or two of the votives. Place the other candles around the mirror and enjoy twice as much flickering light from the reflection. To add a bit more glitz and glimmer, sprinkle confetti or place gemstones around the votives. These will also reflect the light and add sparkle to your tables. Use a confetti color that coordinates with your theme colors. Finish off your centerpieces with your choice of votive candle color. Choose the color that works best with your color scheme and enjoy the fabulous scent that will fill the air.
You can allow your guests also to participate by organizing a show or a singing competition. For this however you will need proper planning and rehearsals.

image3.Famous Couple Party:
You can also throw a Party where each guest has to come with a partner both dressed as famous couples for eg. Romeo and Juliet, Adam and Eve, Fred and Wilma, Barbie and Ken, Anthony and Cleopetra, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck, Prince Charles and Lady Diana. Keep a prize for the couple who have the closest resemblance in terms of dressing. When the guests arrive welcome them with a rose. Keep Valentine’s Day Banners at the entrance and cupid murals all over. You can also have romantic Coloured Scented candles and glow objects to create a soothing atmosphere. Keep red tableware and philodendron plant in the centre as these plants have heart shaped leaves and make attractive centerpieces.
