Tubectomy means cutting of tube.Tubes in general terms meant Fallopian Tubes.Fallopian Tubes are 2 in numbers and are situated in the lower part of the abdomen.The length of each Fallopian tube is about 10cm.These tubes are attached on one end to uterus and other end is open in the abdomen.When the ova is released from the ovary, it is picked up by Fallopian tube and is transmitted to the uterus.If sperms are present in the Fallopian tubes, ova is fertilised and then that is embedded in the uterus.In short, we can say that Fallopian tubes are responsible for transmitting ova from ovaries to uterus.In Tubectomy operation the tubes are divided by cutting the tubes so that ova are not transmitted to uterus.This is the reason that after tubectomy operation pregnancy cannot take place. Why The Precautions Are Essential Before Undergoing Tubectomy Operation?
The sperms of semen are alive for 72 hours.Now you imagine that the women had sex about 2 days before operation.So these sperms would be available in the Fallopian tubes and may fertilise ova.This fertilised ova maybe implanted inside the uterus and she may become pregnant even after tubectomy.
There is another aspect of presence of viable sperms in the Fallopian tubes.These sperms may remain in the distal end of the Fallopian tubes and fertilise an ova,even after Tubectomy.This fertilised ova cannot go to uterus and therefore will implant in the Fallopian Tube resulting in ectopic pregnancy.This is a dangerous condition because ectopic pregnancy may result in rupture of Fallopian tube, severe haemorrhage and death. What To Do?
1.Tubectomy should be done best within a week after menstruation.
2.Don't have sex at least 4 days before tubectomy.
3.If having sexual intercourse, use a condom.
4.If ejaculation has taken place, inside vagina, wash the vagina from inside even if he is using a condom. Beware
1.If condom is torn, postpone the tubectomy for next month.
2.Dont have sex at least 3 days after tubectomy without using condom.
3.Try to have sex while you rest on your abdomen as in that condition deep penetration inside vagina is not possible and male partner may control the ejaculation in a better manner. What If Menstruation Do Not Take Place In Time?
Even after all the precautions, if you do not have menses, you should immediately go for pregnancy check up.Though tubectomy might have been done correctly, chances of spontaneous recanalisation do exist. Can Tubectomy Operation Be Undone?
Yes.Ligated and divided tubes can be successfully opened and their lumen restored by using microsurgery.Success rate is as high as 90%.However one should always opt for microsurgery rather than simple operation. Which Doctor Should Be Chosen?
