History:
Sikandar Lodhi of the Lodhi dynasty, Delhi Sultanate, founded Modern Agra in the 16th century.Emperor Akbar built Fatehpur Sikri in Agra . Fatehpur Sikri remained his capital for around fifteen years after which the city was left deserted in mysterious circumstances.However Agra came to its own glory when Shahjahan when he built the Taj in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal in 1653 AD. Agra is located on the banks of the Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh at an elevation of 560feet.It is the 3 rd biggest city in Uttar Pardesh in North India. Agra is 204km south of Delhi.
Climate:
Agra has a tropical climate, where the summers can be extremely hot with temperatures soaring to a maximum of 45 degree C. The Rainy Season or Monsoons(July – September) and the summer season(April – June) should be avoided. Winter months (October-March) are pleasant and the ideal time to visit Agra. By Air: Indian airlines connects Agra to Delhi, Khajuraho and Varanasi. Kheria Airport is about 9 km. from Govt. of India Tourist Office and 6 km from Agra Town.
 By Rail: Agra is a major railway junction on main broad guage routes to the south, east and west. Two of the best trains viz.Shatabdi Express (between Delhi and Bhopal) and Taj Express (between Delhi and Gwalior) are available to access agra.Some other train servicing the city are: G.T. Express ( New Delhi to Chennai), Dadar Express (Mumbai to Amritsar), Jhelum Express (Jammu to Pune), Kalinga Utkal Express (New Delhi to Puri), Karnataka Express (New Delhi to Trivendrum), Ujjani Express (Dehradoon to Ujjain) and Hyderabad Express (New Delhi to Hyderabad).The main railway station is the Agra Cantonment station.
By Road: Idgah bus stand is the main bus stand of Agra, from where one can catch buses for Delhi, Jaipur, Mathura, Fatehpur-Sikri, etc. Buses for Mathura also leave from Agra Fort bus stand.
Agra can be explored using different modes of transport like taxi, tempo, auto-rickshaw and cycle rickshaw from the Taj Mahal area. Prepaid taxis and autos from the railway station are available. Prepaid transport is also available for excursions in and around the city limits. Bicycles can be hired on hourly basis from different parts of the city. It is to be remembered that no diesel or petrol vehicle are allowed to ply in the Taj Mahal area.
