Majestic Agra-City Of Culture

Travel Tips Agra:

There are some cautions that visitors travelling to Agra must take into consideration.
1. While visiting Taj Mahal remember that security is tight, so leave behind any pocketknives, as well as chewing gum, cigarettes, or anything that could mark the building. Cell phones are not permitted inside the main enclosure area: you have to check them in first at a booth nearby. Do this before you get into the VERY long line to get in.
2. While shopping at Agra beware of being overcharged. Do not let anyone lead you to a shop, lest the price go up to cover their commission, typically 50%. Be very wary of the promises these people make. Bargain hard. Be prepared to walk away - you can nearly always get the same items in another shop. Also remember that in these globalized times, you can always order stuff you liked in your visit over the internet after you return. .
3. Sunscreen, loose comfortable cotton clothing, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses are essential equipment while traveling in Agra in summer. While traveling in winter, woolen clothing or warm clothing is essential at nighttime.
4. In some religious monuments such as mosques, women may not be allowed to enter. At mosques and Hindu temples, footwear needs to left at the entrance. Wear decent clothing when traveling to religious shrines.
5. The domestic voltage in India is 220 volts. Convertors and adapters for appliances such as cell phones are easily available at electronics stores.
6. Photography may be prohibited in some locations. For instance, Agra has military installations that are prohibited zones for tourists.
7. If you require medical attention, there are excellent hospitals in India. Chemists' stores in all major markets offer over-the-counter medication. If you regularly use some medication, please bring it with you, since brand names of medication available in India may differ from the medication you normally use.
8. It is safe to drink water in hotels and restaurants. While outdoors, branded bottled water is readily available. Check that the seal on the bottle is secure.
9. Markets in India offer a wide range of essential items so you can travel light and buy anything you require in India. However if you're going mountaineering or skiing, then do bring your own equipment, so that you can indulge in your interest at ease.
