Shopping In Athens:

Athens is bustling metropolis therefore you will find a wide variety of shopping delights there. However it is advisable to visit as many places as you can to compare prices and make your pick accordingly.

Athinas Street:

imageAthinias street is the heart of Athens, it is the gastronomical hub of restaurants and shopping of course, apart from the general shopping there is meat and fish market available as well, also including the general fruits and vegetables the other items that are available in plentiful at decent prices are nuts, herbs, spices, olives, honey and coffee to name a few. Athinias street starts at Monastiraki all the way to Omonia Square leading the the Acropolis. you will even come across Ermou street on the way between the two squares. The kind of clothes that you can but from Athinas Street for daily use are souvenir shirts, Soccer jerseys of local teams, military shirts, American sports team shirts, sweatshirts etc...etc... Athinia Street sells a lot of items according to the requirement of the season for example you will find a lot of shops available, that sell the Greek flag if Greece wins a victory in any major games. The Athens City Hall is on the west side of the street and The Modern Agora is east of Athinas Street; the office towers is towards the north and the sourthen part of Athinas Street is lined with Neo Classical architecture.

Plaka:

imagePlaka is a place for souvenir shopping mainly meant for the tourists, you will find some good gold and silver jewellers. The prices are quite reasonable, and you will also find a diverse range of jewellery. The crafts are mass produced , quality traditional Greek Art, prints, paintings & Icons. Leather items like purses, wallets, belts. The calenders are of an artistic range - T-shirts " bottles of Ouzo the most popular drink in Greece, olive oil; honey, and other food item. Plaka is also a district in Athens with narrow streets that will lead you to acropolis from the North.

Pandrossou Street And The Monastiraki Flea Market:
imagePandrossou Street is a hub for a variety of articles and the place is settlement of stalls with shelves that are over loaded with a variety of items. babouches and tsaroúhia which are traditional Greek shoes, carpets, knitwear and embroideries, belts, carved or silver that is embellished with patterns along with copper objects, miniature representations and ceramics, souvenirs, vintage items or look alike antique material, home-wares, clothing etc...etc...Pandrossou Street is perfect for pedestrians and can one can come from the huge Metropolis Cathedral on the Plateia Metropoleos to Monastiraki district. To the left was the entrance to the Bazaar, there are the ruins of a market which was burnt down in 1885. On Sundaysthe streets around the station and Adrianou Street are filled with vendors selling jewellery and handicrafts. The traditional Monastiraki Flea Market open on Sundays and it is 10 minutes away from Acropolis.

Ermou street:
imageErmou Street is the most popular and fashionable street of the Greek capital, perfect for those who want to shop with a flair of exclusivity.it is not very far from the Syntagma square, and for those who love to take walking excursions can do so on the pedestrian that is set between Syntagma and Monastiraki, the street is right next to the Parliament building and Ceramics Museum. Therefore the entire path is perfect for window shopping and a good way for one to compare prices as you walk down the streets while you have a good look at the wide gamut of items that are available. Ermou Street is the largest commercial street in Athens and very crowded especially on weekends. Thestreet contains designer shops with branded items that are expensive. Ermou Street also contains a Byzantine church of modest size called the Kapnikareas Church dated from the 11th century ; a very well preserved church indeed. The building was damaged in 1821 during the Greek War of Independence however was repaired in 1840. The area surrounding the Kapnikareas Church resembles a miniature square.
