The Fascinating Islands - Canary Islands

Introduction:
The canary Islands is an archipelago consisting of seven large islands , which happen to be the remnants of seven volcanoes and some smaller ones as well. These Islands became a part of the Spanish Kingdom in 1496 after the Discovery made by Christopher Columbus. The Canary Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean. The names of the seven larger islands are (Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro subsequently, where as the smaller Islands are called (Alegranza, Graciosa, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste and Lobos). The islands consist two provinces called Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas respectively. The status of capital city is shared by the cities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which in turn are the capitals of the provinces of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas. The third largest city of the Canary Islands is San Cristóbal de La Laguna (City World Heritage Site) on the island of Tenerife.

The Canary Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean to the south-west of spain anf to the north-west of the African continent, and directly in front of the coast of Morocco.

The Official Language: The official language of the Canary Islands is Spanish and some of the other languages spoken are English and German.

The Seasonal Festival: The main seasonal festival is called "Carnival" and the main location for this festival is Tenerife, which generally takes place between the months of February and March.

Climate:
The climate at the canary Islands is subtropical and the land scape scenery is a beautiful picture of snow capped mountains and beaches along side. There is sparse rainfall in the canaries which mainly takes place during the winter. The climate basically remains constant throughout the year.
The Average Temperature: The average temperature at the Canary Islands range from 18º to 24º C which is perfect to relax on the beashes all year round.

Topography:
The topography of the canary Islands ae varied however all the places consists of beaches , mountains and structures which are the remnants of volcanic eruptions. The Canarian Islands are 13 in number and all the islands are semi dcesert in region , along with being mountainous as well, Then Islands do not have any rivers. Geographically the Canary mountains are the tips of a volcanic mountain range and it lies off the north west coast of Morocco.
