Travel Historic City Of London Districts: The administrative area of Greater London contains thirty-two London boroughs. Twelve of these plus the City of London constitute Inner London, while twenty others constitute Outer London.
The Inner London Boroughs are: 1.Camden: The area is in the north side of the city, reaching from Holborn and Bloomsbury in the south to Hampstead Heath in the north. Neighbouring areas are the City of Westminster and the City of London to the south, Brent to the west, Barnet and Haringey to the north and Islington to the east.
2.Greenwich: The borough lies along the south bank of the River Thames between Deptford and Thamesmead. Because of the shape of the river, the waterfront is extremely long. Travelling south away from the waterfront, the ground swiftly rises: Shooters Hill in the east and the high ground of Blackheath in the west bookend the borough, Eltham to the south of these hills falls away slightly. 3.Hackney: The London Borough of Hackney is a London borough located to the north-east of the centre, and forms part of inner London. 4.Hammersmith and Fulham: The Borough is in West London and is located further out than Notting Hill and Kensington.This London Borough is a mixture of employment with high-density residential areas. 5.Islington: Located in North London, The borough contains two Westminster parliamentary constituencies; Islington North and Islington South & Finsbury. 6.Kensington and Chelsea: Is a London borough in the west side of central London.According to 2001 Census this London Borough is described as the most densely populated local authority in the United Kingdom, with a population of 158,919 at 13,244 per square kilometre (the land area is approximately 12 square kilometres). 7.Lambeth: It is a London borough in South London, and has the highest population density of the Inner London boroughs. 8.Lewisham: It is a London borough in south east London and is surrounded by the London Borough of Greenwich to the east, the London Borough of Bromley to the south and the London Borough of Southwark to the west. The River Thames forms a short section of northern boundary. 9.Southwark: It is located directly south of the River Thames. 10.Tower Hamlets: The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is a London borough to the east of the City of London, England and north of the River Thames in East London. It includes much of the redeveloped Docklands region of London, including West India Docks and Canary Wharf. Many of the tallest buildings in London are located on the Isle of Dogs in the south of the borough. The Isle of Dogs is formed from the lock entrances to the former West India Docks and the largest current meander of the River Thames and the southern part of the borough forms a part of the historic flood plain of the River Thames. 11.Wandsworth: The London Borough of Wandsworth is a London borough in south west London, England and forms part of Inner London.
12.Westmister: The City of Westminster is a borough of London, England with city status. It is located west of the City of London and north of the River Thames, and forms part of Inner London and the bulk of London's central area. The city contains most of London's West End and is the seat of the United Kingdom's government, with the Palace of Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Whitehall, and the Royal Courts of Justice, Big Ben and nearby Westminster Abbey. The Outer London Boroughs are: 1.Barking and Dagenham: The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham is a London borough in East London and forms part of Outer London. 2.Barnet: It is a London borough in North London. 3.Bexley: The London Borough of Bexley is an English (England) local government area (London borough) in the south-eastern area of Outer London. The area covers both DA (Kent) and SE (South East London) postal codes. The River Thames is its northernmost boundary. 4.Brent: It is located in north west London. 5.Bromley: The London Borough of Bromley is a London Borough of outer southeast London, England. It has an area of 59 square miles (153 km²), of which the majority is green belt land. The borough is the largest in Greater London in terms of area. Most of the settlement is in the north and west of the borough, with an outlier at Biggin Hill in the far south. 6.Croydon: It is a London borough in South London with an area of 34 square miles (87 km²) and is the largest London borough by population. At its centre is the historic town of Croydon from which the borough takes its name. Central Croydon is the civic centre of Croydon and houses the largest office and retail centre in south east of England other than central London. 7.Ealing: Located in West London, this London Borough is the main home to Polish immigrants in London.
8.Enfield: It is the most northerly London borough and has a history of armaments manufacture. 9.Haringey: The London Borough of Haringey is a London borough in North London. 10.Harrow: The London Borough of Harrow is a London borough of outer north-west London. It borders Hertfordshire to the north and other London boroughs: Hillingdon to the west, Ealing to the south, Brent to the south-east and Barnet to the east. 11.Havering: The London Borough of Havering is a London borough in east London. 12.Hillingdon: The London Borough of Hillingdon is the westernmost borough in Greater London, England. It is home to Brunel University and London Heathrow Airport. 13.Hounslow: The London Borough of Hounslow is a London borough in West London, England. 14.Kingston Upon Thames: The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames is a borough in south-west London, England. The main town in the borough is Kingston upon Thames, but it covers a wider area also including places such as Surbiton, Chessington, New Malden and Tolworth. The main town in the borough, Kingston upon Thames, has existed on the banks of the River Thames in South-west London for many hundreds, if not thousands of years. Many Roman relics have also been found in the surrounding areas. 15.Merton: The London Borough of Merton is a London borough in south west London. 16.Newham: The London Borough of Newham is a London borough in East London, within Greater London.It is situated 5 miles east of the City of London and north of the River Thames. 17.Redbridge: The London Borough of Redbridge is a London borough in North East London, England. The name comes from a bridge over the River Roding; it was made of red brick, unlike other bridges in the area made of white stone.
18.Richmond Upon Thames: The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is a London borough in south west London, England. It is the only London borough to straddle the Thames with districts on both sides of the river. There are over 100 parks and open spaces within its boundary and 21 miles of river frontage - five times more green and open space than any other London borough. 19.Sutton: The London Borough of Sutton is a London borough in outer southwest London. 20.Waltham Forest: The London Borough of Waltham Forest is a London borough in East London, England and forms part of Outer London.It is a mix of built-up residential development and a fifth of the borough is made up of forestland, reservoirs, open space, parks and playing fields. It is located between part of Epping Forest in the east and the River Lee in the west which form two green corridors, passing into London from the surrounding countryside.
